The Teachers, Take Charge! Workshop
Minimizing Stress to Maximize Learning.
Stressed students cannot learn. The problem is that children of all ages are under immense pressure to perform well academically, socially and athletically and feeling stressed has become a way of life for students. It is now a recognized fact that stress in children is an extremely dangerous, underestimated condition that has reached epidemic proportions. 95% of all learning, behavior and mood symptoms in children are triggered by stress.
Yet instead of addressing this, many doctors parents and educators seem to take it for granted that children will just find a way to cope with their stress. Too many children don’t know how to do this so the stress build up. Ongoing stress throws the child’s biochemistry off balance and causes a hurting body, a hurting brain and a hurting spirit. This is when learning stops and negative behavior takes over.
Every day, in every classroom around the nation, educators see the symptoms of stress such as inability to focus and attend, underachievement, disengagement, low motivation, and anxiety; all kinds of behavior problems, meltdowns, bullying, anger and depression. This is the result of continuous stress that compromises the child’s ability to learn easily, behave positively and feel good about themselves and others
The stress and pressure students have to deal with is not going away. This is why it is vitally important that teachers have the tools and skills to minimize the stress that students feel and maximize their ability to learn.

The 21st Century Whole Brain Educator Workshop
The latest research in educational neuroscience shows that humans can produce brand new brain cells. This discovery that the brain is in fact more malleable than previously thought has overturned over 100 years of scientific dogma. It has also forced us to modify our outdated paradigm of how our brain works and what this means to teachers and students.
Incredible new discoveries such as neuroplasticity and neurogenesis means that the way teachers teach will have one of three possible effects – it can actually reduce the brain power students have, use only a limited amount of the student’s brain or increase the brain’s functional ability by assisting the brain to make more connections and new neurons.
The 21st Century Whole Brain Educator Workshop empowers teachers with information and tools for doing two things:
- Integrating both sides of the brain –teaching with the whole brain
- Enhancing the brain’s ability – enhancing connections and increasing neurons.
